This
web server is
running on some super low power hardware. It is also running on some
easy to configure and cheap software. Want to know
how we did it? The
server is running on a Via Epia EX10000EG motherboard. Via is
another manufacturer of X86 processors that not many people are
aware of. Their C7 processor is not a very high perfomance
processor, but it
is super low power. This motherboard is super quiet because it does not
require a fan to keep it cool. It only uses 14 watts of power. If you
are interested in this, click on the picture of the motherboard to find out more.
We also installed it with a RW DVD drive and a Seagate ST9250410ASG
250G 2.5" 7200RPM SATA drive. This tiny drive only uses 1.5 watts of
power. Click on the picture of the drive to see the Seagate Momentus drive
specs.
All this is put inside a tiny Travla aluminum chasis made by Casetronic. It's so
quiet you can't even hear it running. Click on the pretty black aluminum case for the
specs.
Last, but not least, everything is running on Mandriva Linux. No need
for
Windows, OSX, or other fee based manufacturers. This is a free
operating
system that is rock solid and makes configuration simple.
Mandriva Linux version 2009.1 comes bundled with Apache webserver
software. Get more information by clicking on the picture of Mandriva's logo.
